EKG Technician

Medical Billing and Coding Specialist
Medical Billing & Coding Specialists support healthcare organizations across the medical field by managing claims, invoices and payments. The skills learned in our program include
- Gathering/reviewing essential information

- Preventing fraud/abuse by auditing billing
- Assigning codes for diagnoses and procedures

Medical Administrative Assistant
Medical administrative assistants are critical in keeping healthcare offices running smoothly and they set the tone for the patient experience. Often times they may also be called upone to assist the medical professionals with other non-administrative tasks such as preping the exam room and routine patient prep procedures. Our training program to become a medical administrative assistant can be completed in as little as twenty four weeks and may include the following topics:
- Reviewing and answering practice correspondence
- Operating computer systems to accomplish office tasks
- Answering calls and scheduling appointments
- Greeting patients and updating electronic medical records
- Updating and maintaining patient and other practice-specific information
- Coordinating operation reports such as time and attendance

Medical Clinical Assistant
Medical assistants (MAs) are critical members of healthcare team across the entire healthcare field. Often times they are the first and last person a patient interacts with, making a lasting impact on the patient experience. The medical clinical assistant program at the Bahamas Institute of Business and Technology offers students opportunities to become certified MAs in a relatively short period of time. The program trains participants to perform a variety of tasks such as:
- Taking patient vital signs
- Assisting providers with exams and procedures
- Administering injections or medications
- Performing EKG, phlebotomy and other essential laboratory procedures
- Checking patients in and out upon arrival and departure
- Answering phone calls and questions

Pharmacy Technician
Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are critical components of the healthcare field. Technicians work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies, and other healthcare settings.The pharmacy technician certification program at the Bahamas Institute focuses on providing students with the technical knowledge and practical skills necessary for entry-level positions as pharmacy Technicians in hospitals, pharmacies and other healthcare facilities. Upon completion of this program students will be able to
- Describe the responsibilities and duties of pharmacy technicians
- Understand the ethical and legal requirements of a pharmacy technician
- Know the trade and generic names of selected drugs, how they are administered and their side effects
- Understand drug classifications and indications,
- Understand pharmaceutical and medical terminology, including abbreviations and symbols
- Perform pharmaceutical preparation skills, including filling prescriptions and preparing sterile products;
- Describe basic anatomy and related pathological conditions
Phlebotomy Technician
The Phlebotomy Technician program is designed to prepare students to become certified phlebotomists. Phlebotomists work as members of medical teams in a hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers and other health care facility to draw blood and analyze specimens. Students enrolled in this program will learn how to:
- Prepare tools for drawing blood
- Read and understand blood works requisitions
- Draw blood from patients and blood donors;
- Evaluate patients’ ability to withstand procedure;
- Explain blood-drawing procedure to patients and answer questions;
- Prepare blood, urine and other specimens for testing;
- Perform basic point of care testing, such as blood glucose levels;
